Terms of Service
Acceptance of these Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of Slice Shelf, a desktop and web library for organizing and previewing 3D print files, offered by Rooteny (“Slice Shelf”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). The service includes the desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux, the web app at https://app.slice-shelf.com, and the website at https://slice-shelf.com, including accounts, licenses, and subscriptions.
By creating an account, downloading the app, or using Slice Shelf in any way, you (“you” or “user”) agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use Slice Shelf. If you use Slice Shelf for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” includes it.
Continued use after we post an update is acceptance of the updated Terms, as described in “Changes to these Terms”.
The service
Slice Shelf helps you browse, preview, and organize 3D print and related files, including STL and other formats described on the website. The desktop app is offline-first: files you keep in a local library stay on your device. Previews, tags, notes, and diagnostics for that local library are produced on the device.
Some features need a network connection. Those include creating an account, signing in, checking whether your plan is Free or Pro, paying for a subscription, and, if you choose, connecting Google Drive or OneDrive. The web app provides access to your account and to library features that depend on a signed-in session.
What Slice Shelf does not do
Slice Shelf is a library and preview tool. It is not a slicer, a printer controller, or a guarantee of print results. Cost estimates, layer counts, and diagnostics are informational. Actual print time, material use, and quality depend on your printer, material, and settings. We do not host a public gallery of your models.
Accounts
An account uses an email address and a password. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date. You are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your password and devices secure. Tell us promptly at contact@slice-shelf.com if you believe the account is being used without your permission.
One account, your devices
Your account is personal. Do not share credentials or create extra accounts to evade plan limits, abuse trials, or interfere with the service. A Pro license is for your own use on a limited number of devices (currently up to three), as described on the website. We may refuse registration or close an account that breaks these Terms.
Optional cloud accounts
Google Drive and OneDrive connections are separate from your Slice Shelf password. Authentication with Google or Microsoft is handled by that provider. We do not receive your Google or Microsoft password. Connecting a cloud account is optional and is described in the Privacy Policy, including the Google API Services User Data Policy and its Limited Use requirements for Drive data.
Plans, billing, and Stripe
Slice Shelf offers a Free plan and a paid Pro plan. The features included in each plan, and the current prices, are shown on the pricing section of the website and on the plans page. We may change prices or plan contents for future billing periods. We will post the change on the website before it applies to a renewal.
Free
The Free plan does not require a credit card. It includes the capabilities described on the website, currently centered on STL preview and basic library views. Free features may change as the product evolves. We will describe the current Free plan on the website.
Pro subscriptions
Pro is billed in advance as a recurring subscription through Stripe. Billing intervals offered at checkout may include monthly, yearly, and multi-year terms. You authorize Stripe to charge the payment method you provide for the plan you select, and to charge renewal fees until you cancel. Taxes may be added where the law requires. Stripe’s terms apply to the payment processing itself. We do not store your full card number.
Cancellation and failed payment
You may cancel a subscription from the billing portal linked to your account. Cancellation stops future renewal. You keep Pro access until the end of the period you have already paid for. After that, the account returns to Free. Your local files, notes, and tags remain on your device. We do not delete them because a subscription ends.
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe may retry the charge and we may suspend Pro features until the invoice is paid. You can update your payment method in the billing portal.
Withdrawal and refunds
Where a mandatory cooling-off or withdrawal right applies, you may use it. That includes the seven-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts under the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code when that law applies to the purchase. In that case, contact contact@slice-shelf.com within the statutory period and we will refund amounts the law requires. Outside mandatory rights, fees already paid are charged for the current period and are not refunded, except where we agree in writing or the law requires a refund.
Permitted use
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the desktop app, and to access the website and web app, for your own library, under these Terms and the plan you are on. You agree that you will:
Rules of use
- Use Slice Shelf only with files you have the right to store, preview, and, if you sync them, upload to your own cloud account.
- Not use the service to commit or encourage unlawful activity, or to infringe intellectual-property, privacy, or other rights of any person.
- Not probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the service, bypass license checks, or access accounts, servers, or data you are not authorized to use.
- Not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app except to the limited extent a mandatory law expressly allows and only after giving us written notice where that law requires it.
- Not copy, resell, rent, or sublicense the app or your license, and not use bots or scripts to overload or extract the service.
- Not misuse support channels or send malware, spam, or unsolicited commercial messages through Slice Shelf.
Your files and intellectual property
You keep all rights in the 3D files, notes, tags, and other materials you add to Slice Shelf (“Your Content”). We do not claim ownership of your models. Local files stay on your device. If you connect Google Drive or OneDrive, copies you sync are stored in your own cloud account, under that provider’s terms, in the files the app creates or that you open with the app.
Limited permission you give us
You grant Slice Shelf a limited, non-exclusive license to host, transmit, and process account data, license data, and optional material records, and to store encrypted cloud credentials, solely to operate the service for you. When you connect a cloud provider, you authorize us to request access tokens and to instruct that provider to read and write the files in scope so the features you turn on can work.
This permission is only for providing Slice Shelf. It is not a license to publish your models, sell them, use them in advertising, or train public models on them. The permission ends when the relevant data is deleted, except for copies we must keep for a limited backup, security, or legal period as described in the Privacy Policy.
Our intellectual property
The Slice Shelf name, logo, software, interface, and documentation are owned by Rooteny or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer any of that ownership to you. Feedback you choose to send may be used to improve the product without obligation to you, and without granting us rights in Your Content.
Responsibility for content
You are responsible for Your Content and for having the rights needed to use it with Slice Shelf. Models downloaded from third-party sites remain subject to the licenses set by their authors. We do not review your local library and we do not warrant that third-party files are safe, accurate, or lawful to print.
Reports
If you believe content processed through a Slice Shelf account infringes your rights, email contact@slice-shelf.com with enough detail for us to identify the account and the material. Because local files are not uploaded to us by default, we may only be able to act on content that is in an account or cloud connection we can reach, or by suspending the account involved.
Age
Slice Shelf is not directed to children under 16. You may create an account and purchase a plan only if you can form a binding contract where you live, or if a parent or guardian who can form that contract accepts these Terms for you. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under 16 without the consent the law requires, we will delete that account information. We may close accounts that do not meet this requirement.
Suspension and enforcement
Steps we may take
We may act, in proportion to the issue, if we reasonably believe these Terms, the law, or the rights of others are at risk:
- Refuse, limit, or remove a cloud connection or account data that violates these Terms.
- Suspend Pro features when a subscription is unpaid.
- Suspend or close an account for fraud, license abuse, security risk, or a lawful request from an authority.
Where it is reasonable and legally allowed, we will tell you the reason. We do not monitor the contents of your on-device library in advance.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Slice Shelf is provided on an “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that previews, diagnostics, or cost estimates will match a physical print, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Your files and devices
You are responsible for backups of local files. We are not liable for loss of models stored only on your device, or for damage arising from opening a file in a third-party slicer or sending it to a printer.
Estimates
Resin and filament cost figures, layer information, and similar outputs are estimates based on the data available in the file and the settings you enter. They are not a quote, an invoice, or professional engineering advice.
Third-party services and downtime
We are not responsible for outages or data practices of Google, Microsoft, Stripe, AWS, or your network, except to the extent caused by our own failure to meet a non-waivable duty. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-profit damages, where the law allows that exclusion.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for claims arising out of the service in a twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid to Slice Shelf for the service during those twelve months. If you use only the Free plan, that cap is the minimum amount the law allows. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or any right that a mandatory consumer-protection law says cannot be waived.
Third-party services
Integrations
Slice Shelf relies on or offers connections to third parties, including Stripe for subscriptions, Amazon Web Services for hosting, Google for optional Drive access under the drive.file scope, and Microsoft for optional OneDrive app-folder access. The website and apps may also open files in software you have installed, such as a slicer or a file manager. Those products are governed by their own terms.
Google user data obtained through Drive is used only as described in the Privacy Policy and in line with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not control Google’s or Microsoft’s availability. You may disconnect either integration at any time.
Ending your account
By you
You may stop using Slice Shelf at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing contact@slice-shelf.com. Cancel any active subscription first, or we will treat the deletion request as a request to cancel renewal as well. Deletion follows the retention rules in the Privacy Policy. Files that remain on your device or in your Google Drive or OneDrive are yours to remove.
By us
We may suspend or close access if you materially break these Terms, if we must do so to comply with law, or if we discontinue the service. If we discontinue a paid plan without cause during a period you have paid for, we will provide a pro rata refund of the unused prepaid fees, except where we offer an equivalent remaining term. Clauses that by their nature should survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law, remain in effect.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect the product, our providers, or the law. The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version. If a change is material, we will provide notice by a reasonable means, such as a notice on the website or in the app, or by email when we have your address, before the change applies to you.
If you continue to use Slice Shelf after the updated Terms take effect, you accept them, except where the law requires a separate consent. If you do not agree, stop using the service and close your account before the change takes effect.
Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil, without regard to conflict-of-law rules that would apply another country’s law to the contract as a whole. Mandatory consumer-protection rules of your place of residence still apply where they cannot be waived, including the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code when you qualify as a consumer under that law.
Courts in the consumer’s place of domicile have venue for disputes brought by a consumer, as the Brazilian Code of Consumer Defense and applicable procedure provide. If you are not a consumer, the courts of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, have exclusive venue, unless a mandatory law requires a different forum.
